Part 1 of 3.

An intro to the basics of bokashi gardening and soil care (towards creating a living soil). Learn the two main ways to make the basic bokashi ferments: the bokashi sprinkle with wheat bran and the bokashi spray (a liquid bokashi ferment). We will also make EM•5 foliar spray (another type of liquid bokashi ferment that includes garlic and hot peppers) which is used to spray on plants and trees, as well as treat the soil. These bokashi ferments will take at least 2 weeks before they’re ready to use.

In Part 2 (June 28, Sat 11–2), the two bokashi ferments (bokashi sprinkle and bokashi spray) will be ready to use. We will use them as follow:

  • To compost plant clippings and branches
  • To amend soil
  • To make bokashi FPE (Fermented Plant Extract)
  • To treat food waste to make bokashi food waste

In Part 3 (July 12, Sat 11–2), the bokashi food waste (fermented food waste) and bokashi FPE will be ready to use. We will apply them to the soil, as well as apply the EM•5 made in part 1.
