Join Jesi and Haileen for a history lesson on West African Adire dyeing! If you want to learn some techniques and go home with your own indigo-dyed creation bring along some white, clean cotton from home! Dye will be provided!
Jesi Taylor Cruz is a Philosophy graduate student, researcher, freelance writer, archivist, and Waste Impact Administrator for Common Ground Compost whose work lies at the intersection of Genocide Studies, Political Theory, Disability Studies, Black Feminist Ecology, and Discard Studies. Her primary focus is the impact of waste-based structural violence on marginalized and criminalized communities and how to address inequities.
Haileen Nunez is a textiles specialist, sustainable textiles researcher, and natural dye educator whose work and research examines histories of weaving and dyeing technologies through a lens of cultural history, environmental justice, and anthropology.
